Electricity/power tariff issues:
In August 2005, People’s Action was invited by Delhi RWAs to intervene in Delhi power tariff issue. The first ever Independent RWAs Convention was called and a resolution to launch a civil disobedience movement was piloted. Under this, it was decided that in case of 10% hike being implemented, the same will not be paid by the consumers. On September 1st, government buckled down and withdrew the tariff hike. People’s Action’s win created a strategic space for an independent group of RWAs to open up and United Residents Joint Action [URJA] was formed.
